    A male given name, a Greek form of Leo, or Anglicized from the French Léon or Spanish León male first name (form of Leo); family name {i} Medieval kingdom, northwestern Spain. Leon proper included the cities of León, Salamanca, and Zamora the adjacent areas of Vallodolid and Palencia being disputed with Castile, originally its eastern frontier.
